East coast of Australia, from north Queensland down to Victoria. An isolated population occurs in south-east South Australia.

Found in the following Australian states/territories

Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, South Australia


Generally around water bodies, such as creeks, rivers, ponds and man-made drainage systems. This species has done spectacularly well in urban environments.
