Etymology  Cacophis: 'bad-snake'.
churchilli: after "Gregory Churchill, of Dundas, New South Wales who collected the holotype as well as greatly assisted the Australian Herpetological Society."1

Description

Dark grey to brown above with a narrow yellow band on the nape; top of head darker than sides and snout.

Similar species

White-crowned snake (Cacophis harriettae) - has a broad white band across the nape (versus a narrow band).
Golden-crowned snake (Cacophis squamulosus) - possesses a brown to yellow streak along each side of the neck (versus a narrow band).

Taxonomic notes

This species was described by Wells & Wellington in 1985.1
